About Me
I do journalism to transform reality: so that words can circulate without fear, so that voices can find passage in the breeze, and so that people can walk along the paths that lead to the rivers without imposed silences.
I was born and raised in Guatemala, where I studied and earned a degree in Journalism and Communication Sciences at the University of San Carlos. This allowed me to publish in La Hora, Prensa Libre, Nuestro Diario, elPeriódico, and Prensa Comunitaria.
My work has focused on investigating Guatemalan politics and the justice system, including reporting on corruption, transparency, laws, impunity, and extensive illicit networks that undermine democracy.
As a result of my reporting, the Guatemalan state initiated political persecution against me, which has forced me into exile. This has taken me to unexpected places, yet I have continued to investigate critical issues affecting my country.
I have also collaborated in monitoring freedom of expression in Central America and have given lectures on my research methodology and the challenges of practicing journalism under adverse conditions.
